A Good Sense Of Humor

Spontaneous, loud, and bright
Is her laugh
At a joke on T.V.,
A happy and comforting sound,
Full of genuine glee,
And sometimes
She laughs at me...

Fundamentalist

The Pope may be Catholic,
And a bear may poop in the woods,
But the gifts of radical preachers
Are nothing but damaged goods,
Mendacious holy teachers
Spreading hate in their neighborhoods...

Examination Hell

Two A.M., walking in the dark
Are lonely drunken fools,
And tired kids leaving
Korean cram schools...

Hard-Earned Money

A welcome development
Sure to ease life's tension,
Comes this November
When I qualify for my pension.

Love And Bodily Functions

Into each other's arms they fell,
All lusty heat and passion,
Until a fart broke the spell...
A tale that love poems
Never tell...

Post Stroke

Newly ejected from in-patient care,
It's start time for therapy,
A contest against pain,
Gut-check hikes in the morning air,
Counting pace with a walking cane...
Tell myself it beats being in bed,
Each step a delay to the day I'm dead.

Saturday Thoughts With Head Pain

The headache seems worse
When I find the aspirin
Bottle is empty...
- - - - - - - - - -
I'm sure the folks next door
Must love their music,
Which vibrates through my floor...
They must think I could not
Stand the silence before,
So they unleash the bass
And the beat, so my place
Is not cold and empty anymore...
I must express my gratitude,
For their kind and caring attitude.

Convenience store sandwich rack
After the lunch-time rush is done,
And all that's left is
Fried-noodles in a hot-dog bun...

No Fear Of The Blankness

I may not be the one to fight,
But I can conjure, I can write,
Scribble things that weren't there
Before I snagged the words out of the air,
And herd them onto the sheet
Of paper, where marks and meaning meet...
